The snow is melting and the sun is slowly creeping back into students’ lives as they walk up and down Comm. Ave. This means only one thing: Spring is here! As college students all know, the best part of spring is spring break. Whether heading to NYC for shopping and art or Zion for hiking and camping, this list compiles the must have fashion items for any travel itinerary.

Weekend in the City

For a weekend away in the city, functionality is key. A cross-body is a way to keep all the essentials in one place. It’s small enough to not get in the way while bustling through subways and busses, but it’s chic enough to accent any outfit while strutting down the busy sidewalk.

A Hiking Adventure

It is never a bad idea to throw a fleece pullover into the suitcase when packing for a hiking trip. A fleece is perfect for when the sun goes down or when the weather turns a little chilly. It can also be tied around the waist for when it isn’t needed. Jaya Gupta (QST ’21) likes the Patagonia Synchilla the best.

“I wear my Patagonia Synchilla pullover all of the time, but I especially love it for hiking because it is easy to wear,” said Gupta. “There are also so many colors and patterns to pick from, so it’s more fun than traditional hiking gear.”

Parisian Getaway

When in Paris, channel a classic Audrey Hepburn look with a silk scarf! It is the best way to pull off the carefree, Parisian look, but it is tricky business. There are countless ways to go about this, like tying a pastel-colored one around the neck and a checkered one to sweep the hair into a low ponytail. None of these looks would be complete without a pair of cat eye sunglasses. While looking up how to get to Ladurée or the café with the best view of the Eiffel Tower, don’t forget to check out Pinterest for more inspiration on how to use a silk scarf.

Tropical Island Getaway

Running around an island can be tough without the right pair of shoes; while flip flops may seem like the way to go, there are also other, more comfortable options. Emma Schroeder (CAS ’21) says that she can’t leave for vacation without her Tevas.

“My family goes to Bali often for vacation, and believe it or not, Tevas are the one pair of shoes I never forget to take with me when we go,” said Schroeder. “In a place like Bali one second you can be in the Rice Patties, then you can be on the beach, so you need a shoe that is good for both. Tevas can go in water too, which is a plus.”

The Staycation

Sometimes the best vacations take place right at home! With midterms wrapping up, it seems like everyone is looking for a way to de-stress, and there is no better way to do that than by throwing on a pair of PJ’s. A silky pajama set is perfect for wrapping up with a warm blanket, a face mask, and a movie with roommates. Primark and Forever 21 have the most lavish (and affordable!) pajama sets.
