Three “Hobby” Clubs That Can Help Alleviate Stress

By Jessica Shelton

College comes with a lot of stress. Homework, multiple classes, unbelievable deadlines. Everything seems to pile up all at once. But it is important to note that you, like everyone else, are a human being. But human beings are curious creatures and need to be stimulated through different means. One way to ease stress is through a hobby. All over BU’s campus there are clubs and activities for relieving stress. Finding a hobby can help calm the mind and prepare for the week ahead (they're also super fun!). Below is a list of hobbies you can try on BU’s campus that will stimulate the mind and ease any stress going on in your life.

Knitting Club

Who doesn’t love a good scarf for a Boston winter? BU’s Knitting Club is a perfect way to alleviate stress and make presents for the upcoming holiday season. Whether you’re a beginner or not, you can join this club to pick up something new and get function and fashion out of it! Sign up for the mailing list here: http://eepurl.com/dL0Cok

Beekeeping Club

BU’s Beekeeping Club promotes sustainability and a learning environment here at “Bee U.” Learn about the ecosystem of a bee and tend to the honeybee hives while helping grow their population! Maybe even get a little honey out of it! Isn’t that sweet?

Gaming Club

A little competition can be healthy. And what better way to do that than to join BU’s Gaming Club? All types of gamers are welcome, and they even have a discord link to join (https://discord.com/invite/bostonu)! Whether you play all day or just a little bit, this hobby can help connect you with people and learn something new in the process.

Remember, these aren’t the only things you can do to pick up a hobby. However, joining a club on campus is a good way to start. Whether it is baking, reading, or even beekeeping, doing an activity that makes you feel good is the best way to boost your serotonin and make you a happy and healthier student.
