BOSTON TIK TOKERS FAVORITE WINTER SPOTS

Where to Visit, Avoid, and Enjoy the Cold

by Hollie Shuler

TikTok has become the hub for site-specific recommendations based on the technology behind its for-you-page. In recent months, many Boston-based influencers have recommended locations throughout the city to escape Boston's brutally cold winter. We explored these places and have decided which are worth the visit and which should remain in your liked folder on TikTok.

TikTok user @alainapinto recommends visiting L.A. Burdick on Newbury Street for Boston's best hot chocolate. After visiting this gorgeous chocolate shop, it's easy to see why this was her favorite spot.

The hot chocolate is rich and perfectly warm, and the shop's interior serves as a cozy escape from the cold. In addition to the hot chocolate, L.A. Burdick sells confections and truffles — the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

If you're looking for a place to embrace the cold rather than retreat from it, @bostontourguide showcased the public garden on a snowy day. The frozen-over pond and gorgeous views make this a great spot to visit when Boston experiences snow.

It's easily accessible from the Arlington T stop, making it a destination that's worth the journey. Additionally, visitors can enjoy outdoor ice skating with the Frog Pond located right next to the public garden.

The Boston Athenæum, recommended by @brianpuruiz, is a stunning, privately-owned library located on Beacon Street. While this library does boast a gorgeous academic aesthetic, we recommend visiting the Boston Public Library instead.

Because the Athenæum is privately owned, non-members are only permitted onto the first floor for a small fee, or they can get a $40-day pass to explore the entire library. Unless you have a deep interest in the collections they hold, this is a place that may be better saved on the app than actually visiting.

The @bostontourguide TikTok, along with many other smaller creators, highly recommends visiting Trident Booksellers and Café on Newbury Street. Trident is not only a bookstore, but also a restaurant with an extensive drink and breakfast menu. It's the perfect place to go with friends or by yourself for an academic environment with a bit of background noise.

After enjoying your meal, or even before, take a stroll through the two-story bookstore! Not only can you find some interesting reads, but there is also an assortment of Boston-themed souvenirs available. Additionally, Trident has large windows, allowing you to experience the sights of Newbury Street without being in the cold.

Overall, TikTok is a great way to find recommendations for places to visit in Boston, and its creators are constantly updating the app with the newest and best spots.
