T.G.I.F.

We’ve all been there: it is Friday night, and you and your roommates are sitting inside, staring at the television as your fourth episode in a row of Love Island begins. You all wish you could get dressed up and go out for a night on the town, but for obvious reasons, it cannot happen. You all want to do something, but nothing comes to mind.

It looks like it is going to be another night of sitting inside, scrolling aimlessly in silence.

This is complete understandable. Having safe fun with your friends is already hard enough during a pandemic, and the chilly Boston weather has not made it any easier. However, getting creative is the key to making the most of your semester on campus, and hopefully these ideas will inspire you to break the routine.

I’m sure you’ve seen this first idea all over TikTok, especially if you are as addicted to it as I am. A way to have fun indoors with your roommates is to have a themed food and drinks night. Everyone should plan what drink or food item they’re going to make beforehand, and then prepare and serve it to the rest of the group. Bonus points if they are themed after your favorite shows, movies, and music artists. Everyone should take turns, and do not forget to go all out! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite at the end!

Another indoor idea is to have an overall theme night with your roommates. If drinks are not your thing, choose a theme for everyone to dress up to. Some themes could include tropical, favorite movie character, or favorite holiday. It is a great way to spice up the normal Friday night routine and allows you and your friends to be creative and dress up! Another way to add to the fun is to decorate your room to the theme, serve appropriate snacks, or play music that fits the theme!

Another Friday night idea is a card or board game night. Invest in a game of Monopoly or a deck of cards or a game of UNO! Game night is the perfect idea to get to know your friends better and have fun while staying warm indoors, and as the weather is warming up, you can easily bring them outside!

As we are now well into spring, spend as much time outside as you can. If you have been across campus lately, you would have noticed the plethora of lights, lawn chairs, and space heaters outside. It is a great way to spend time with your friends safely, and bringing food, drinks, and games can make for an entertaining night!
