Decade-Old Styles Are Back, Refined, and Ready to Wear
By Sareena Haq

As we all reeled in the new year, many on social media were reminiscing on 2016, and what it looked like ten years ago. Instagram was suddenly filled with nostalgic studded accessories, skinny jeans, full-glam makeup, ballet flats, and velvet clothing. Beyond fashion, people remembered the broader pop culture of the time, including the peak of Snapchat, Lemonade by Beyoncé, and early influencer culture. While we may look back and laugh at past trends, many are on their way back, in a more laid-back, and modern way. What once felt outdated now feels refreshed, but with a focus on simplicity and wearability.
Skinny Jeans
While skinny jeans may have resurfaced in 2025, they are expected to be back in full swing. For the past few years, many people have gravitated toward ultra-wide-leg and baggy pants, favoring comfort over silhouettes. Now, the pendulum is swinging back toward straight-leg and slimmer-fit jeans. However, unlike the super-tight styles of the 2010s, today’s skinny jeans are often styled more casually—paired with flowy tops, boots, and simple basics. This shift makes the trend feel less restrictive and more balanced, blending the old look with a more modern approach.
Bomber Jackets
The bomber jacket was once a staple in nearly everyone's wardrobe, often worn to make a statement every day. Some feature eccentric prints and bold colors, while others were made from satin fabric or covered in studs. Either way, they were worn for almost any occasion. While these eye-catching jackets aren’t looking the exact same as they appeared in 2016, the silhouette itself is returning. Today, neutral-colored bomber jackets are in. Brands are focusing on creating these jackets in soft leather or suede, using tones like black, brown, and cream. These updated versions blend seamlessly with outfits while still adding a touch of style and effortlessness, making them easy to incorporate into everyday wear.
Ballet Flats
Even though ballet flats have been a wardrobe staple since the 1950s, they are once again appearing in more elevated outfits. As in 2016, many pair ballet flats with skinny jeans, allowing the shoes to stand out rather than disappear under baggier styles. However, today's versions feel more refined. While many ballet flats in 2016 featured large logos, bright colors, or studded details, current styles favor minimalism. Simple silhouettes, solid neutral colors, and clean designs define the updated trend, making ballet flats feel timeless and versatile—easily styled for both casual and polished looks.
The return of these specific trends shows that fashion is not merely repeating itself, but constantly evolving. By toning down bold elements and emphasizing versatility, these once-iconic styles are finding new life in modern, wearable ways.
