A Guide to Marathon Monday

Set an early alarm for Monday April 16th because the Boston Marathon is coming! The 122nd Boston Marathon will kick off at 8:50 a.m. with the mobility impaired start of the marathon, followed by the elite women at 9:32 a.m. and the men’s elite start and the first wave of runners at 10:00 a.m. sharp. While some may choose to spend their Marathon Monday holed up in Allston, not actually witnessing the event, there are many places hosting special viewing parties that would be perfect for large groups.

Right by the Prudential Building and just mere feet from the actual marathon, step outside and watch the runners from Porto Boston. This establishment will be offering $1 oysters all weekend, which is really quite a steal, and even delicious boozy snow cones for those marathon goers 21 and over.

Other spots such as the Mandarin Hotel in Boston and the Burro Bar in Brookline will be offering great viewing spots of the race and unreal food. The Burro Bar will even be firing up the grill for some street style Mexican corn, chorizo sausages and much more.

For those still trying to figure out the best place to pop down for the day and enjoy the race, just follow the yellow brick road, also known as the Green Line. From Coolidge Corner all the way down to Fenway, watch as runners overtake each other and the drama of the race unfolds before your very eyes. For others who may want a closer view of the race, Boylston Street is the perfect spot to watch the runners amp up their speed for one last mile.

It might be painfully early for some, but the Boston Marathon is a day to gather with friends and family, enjoy a lovely spring day off from work, eat well and watch some talented athletes run impossibly fast.

So where will you be on Mar Mon?
