It's Spooky Season!

It’s the time of year to start thinking about what you will wear on the glorious, spooky night of October 31. Whether you plan to go to a party or just chill with your friends watching horror movies, Halloween is the only night of the year when you can dress up as anything you can imagine.
Why not take advantage of that and go crazy? Some BU students even whip out more than one costume during Halloweekend. Below, I have comprised a list of suitable costume ideas following 2018’s trends and beyond.
Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Lara is kind, shy, passionate and creative. If you feel that these traits apply to you or you adored To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, then this costume is perfect for you! Simply throw your hair up in a high ponytail and wear a trendy outfit (that you can certainly gather from your own closet) and you’re set! Your favorite character from The Office or Parks and Recreation Television characters are among the easiest of Halloween costumes to pull together, especially if the show is a sitcom or presents the lives of everyday people. Want to dress up as Leslie Knope? Find a red power suit to wear and carry a history textbook around. How about Kevin from The Office? Take a trip to the West Campus Goodwill to find an oversized gray blazer and carry around an empty cooking pot to resemble the famous “Kevin’s Chili” moment. You could even pull a Dwight and just throw a pumpkin on your head. Peppa Pig Peppa Pig has become very popular these past few months, appearing in memes and on social media feeds everywhere. Dressing up as Peppa would be super easy; you can wear all pink (or a red shirt because Peppa always wears red) and make a pig nose for your face. You’ll be guaranteed to get some smiles from your peers around campus. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, or just Meghan Markle As a pair, you and your significant other (or best friend) could mimic the royal wedding look: elegant, black and white and lovely. Meghan Markle alone tends to wear simple but sophisticated clothing with her hair either down or in a low up-do. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (or any of your favorite social justice superheroes) You could mimic the look Cortez wore when she spoke at BU—a gray dress, a shiny necklace and a pair of reading glasses—or any other suit/business casual look that a politician would wear. To take the extra step, you could print out her campaign poster, as well! Your favorite character among the Queer Eye Fab Five You have Jonathan van Ness, Tan France, Bobby Berk, Antoni Porowski and Karamo Brown to choose from, or gather a group of five of your friends and recreate the whole squad! All five of them have unique styles and there is a lot of room for creativity with this costume. If you’re a Queer Eye “stan,” dress up and embrace it! Donna Sheridan or one of the Dynamos Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was a huge hit this past summer, and I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing a few Donnas on Halloween night. You could have so much fun putting together a Donna outfit; you could aim for a Dynamo costume and channel your inner ’70s disco or take the casual route and wear a pair of overalls with a floral top, just as Lily James wore. Edna Mode or The Incredibles family
Edna is sassy, confident and fun—all perfect characteristics for a Halloween costume. If you enjoyed Incredibles 2 over the summer and loved Edna’s bold and humorous lines, this costume works for you. The Incredible Family also makes a great group costume! Beyoncé and Jay-Z in the “Apesh**t” music video This costume is perfect for all the Beyoncé fans out there. The couple wears pastel-colored suits in the music video with Beyoncé in light purple and Jay-Z in blue, both accented with jewelry. This costume is fun, fresh and very pop culture, just like the music video! You could also look into Bey’s other music video looks for costume inspiration. Other film characters from 2018, such as The Nun, Ally from A Star is Born, your favorite Avenger in Infinity War, Black Panther and even Simon from Love, Simon. That scary, ghostly nun from The Nun provides the foundation for a perfect costume if you’re aiming for the scary side. If you or a friend has makeup talent, some spooky makeup could make this costume one of the best. In addition, Ally from A Star is Born and Simon from Love, Simon are both wholesome characters perfect for the whole-hearted people on campus. Lastly, Infinity War and Black Panther were both huge in 2018, so a costume relating to those themes would surely be a success!
Whether you choose spooky, trendy, funny or cute, I’m sure you’ll look marvelous. There are so many options when it comes to Halloween, so make this one your own. Get creative, embrace what you love or just have fun. Happy Halloween, Boston terriers—and enjoy yourself!
