The holiday season is fast approaching, and with our first snowfall and Thanksgiving passing, it is just about that time to get in the spirit and dive into those fun-filled, festive activities around campus and throughout Boston. BU Arts Initiative, in collaboration with the Student Activities Office brings us Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker College Night again this year, and tickets are selling fast.

At 7:30 p.m. on the night of Thursday, December 6th, college students from around the city will gather in the Boston Opera House to enjoy a night of ballet and immerse themselves in a beloved holiday tradition. Boston College Acoustics will even provide pre-show holiday music for all to enjoy. Visions of sugarplums will dance in their heads as the lights dim and the curtains draw, presenting ballerinas and dancing toys alike.

This year, BU Arts Initiative and the Student Activities Office purchased 240 tickets for College Night to sell at a discounted rate to students. The night occurs right before the final week of classes, so it functions as the perfect study break to get students pumped for the holidays approaching.

“We have been planning this event since around March and April with Boston Ballet,” said Sarah Collins, Assistant Director of BU Arts Initiative. “We love College Night because it takes students out of that BU bubble, and they can meet students from other universities all while engaging in the arts.”

Collins emphasized that she loves this event because it grants BU students access to a professional ballet production at a very reasonable price. With the current ticket price being only $7, students can attend the ballet at a cost that is even cheaper than a movie ticket.

Collins said that her and her colleagues also love this event because it brings more BU students to engage with Arts Initiative, especially because students have to pick up their tickets within their office.

Boston Ballet describes this production of The Nutcracker as a magical experience that will surely capture your imagination. With dancing snowflakes and toy soldiers, The Nutcracker definitely serves as an ultimate way to embrace the holiday spirit with your best friends on campus. If you have seen the show before or if this is your first time, I am sure the adventures of the little girl, Clara, will bring a smile to your face.

Presale for the event took place on November 12th at $5 per ticket, and that batch of tickets sold out within an hour and a half of going live online. From now on, tickets are available for $7 from the Student Activities Office. This price is truly a steal as regularly-priced tickets for The Nutcracker range from around $50–200. These tickets have been live since November 19th, so you better act fast if you’re interested in attending; this last batch of tickets won’t be available for long!

If you do miss out and can’t snag a ticket in time, look out for other festive events through Arts Initiative, and definitely check back for The Nutcracker College Night next year.

Happy holidays, Terriers!
