Even with the variety of meals Boston University’s dining halls have to offer, it is inevitable that students get tired of the food eventually. Sometime during the semester, everything begins to taste the same, smell the same and even look the same. In order to break out of this repetitive cycle, here are some easy DIY recipes that can help to make the food you eat less boring and more personal to your own taste buds.

Root Beer Float

Everyone knows and loves the classic root beer float, but it is even easier to make. The only thing you need to do is combine root beer and vanilla ice cream, and you are done! It is one of the simplest drinks that will have you imagining you are sitting in the booth of a sports bar instead of a seat in the dining hall. You can always be bold and try it out with other sodas until you get your perfect concoction, as well.

Veggies and Hummus

Sometimes you are not always starving when you go to the dining hall and only want a little snack to hold you over until your next class. There are plenty of smaller meals you could eat that are already well known such an apple with peanut butter, but one secret combination is veggies and hummus. You can go to the sandwich bar and only ask for hummus, then go to the salad bar to get all the vegetables you want. There are plenty of options to choose from such as cucumbers, peppers and more. It is a great way to get your healthy serving of veggies in for the day.

Peanut Butter Banana Toast

Every once in a while, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich just won’t do. This simple recipe is perfect for any time of the day when you need a sweet, filling meal. First, toast one or two slices of bread, depending on how hungry you are. Then, spread peanut butter all over them. Next, go to the cereal dispensers and add some granola to the tops of the bread; this will give your toast even more of a crunchy texture. Then, simply add some banana slices and drizzle some honey over the top. This peanut butter banana toast is not only delicious, but it also gives you protein and keeps you full throughout your long day.

Chocolate Milkshake

If you are tired of the same old froyo in the dining hall, this is one of the easiest recipes you can make to transform this dessert. The first step is to put milk—any kind you prefer—and chocolate ice cream in a cup. One important tip to remember is the less milk you put in, the thicker your milkshake will be. Then, stir it up until fully mixed together, creating the perfect consistency. If you want to make this tasty treat even better, add some chocolate sprinkles, crushed up Oreos or chocolate sauce and enjoy!
