Fashion has Trends, but Style is Timeless
A good sense of style can outlast any trend!

Following trends doesn’t necessarily mean you’re fashionable - having your own style does!
A good sense of style is inherently personalized. Trend cycles are impossible to keep up with in the current age of fast fashion and designer dupes, but personal style is the solution!
To most people, being up to date with the latest trends appears simple on the surface. However, if you look closely, overconsumption, cheap designs, and fast fashion comprise most “trendy” individuals’ closets. Many fashion lovers are fed up with following trends because of the time and money it takes to stay on top of them.
Some people appear naturally trendy, but what distinguishes them is that they don’t follow trends, they create them. Their unique outfits inspire others to dress similarly, attracting more attention to certain attires, and that once unique look becomes a social media sensation with hundreds of fast fashion dupes. Their sense of style drives the trends.
For those with a solid personal style, trends are just background noise in their world of fashion.
Your style is a reflection of how you express yourself, meaning it naturally flows and changes. When you find a style that suits you, it becomes timeless to you. Trends, on the other hand, are rigid – you either fit them or you don’t. They only last a few weeks before they’re outdated and overdone.
But what if there was a way to be trendy and have a personal style?
Trends are not inherently bad. They are the major driving force of fashion after all! The difference lies in how we participate in trends. We can either blindly follow them, even if we don’t really enjoy them, or we can evaluate trends to see if it’s something we would wear without their popularity.
If you look critically at what you have in your closet and what’s on your wishlist, you’ll probably spot a few patterns – what colors are there? Are you inspired by what you already own? These observations are the building blocks of your style and how you should approach trends.
If a trend appeals to you, think about how it fits into your current or ideal wardrobe. If you can’t think of anything you could wear with the piece, it’s best to skip out on that trend. But if you can easily imagine multiple ways to style it within your ideal look, then that might be a trend for you!
Trends may include timeless pieces. For example, wide-leg jeans, pointed-toe boots, and big trench coats. These pieces are considered “trendy,” but they never go out of style. Incorporating quality trendy-yet-timeless styles into your closet is a great way to build your wardrobe and participate in trends while still having a timeless flair.
Style is personal to you, so have fun with it! Find what inspires you, what makes you feel good, and what matches your identity. Use trends as a tool to help you find what you like and what you don’t as you discover your true look. When you build your own style, you’ll ultimately feel like your most authentic, stylish self!
