A new year signifies a fresh start, new goals, and new habits, but how do those resolutions find their ways into our kitchens?

Every year, Whole Foods releases what they predict will be the biggest food trends based on consumer wants and needs. This year we see a continuation of past trends, but with a nutritious twist.

In 2025 we saw a variety of trends—some for pure enjoyment and others for mindful health benefits. We saw products including sea moss and probiotic yogurts gain popularity on social media, spiking a health-forward focus. But trends like Dubai chocolate also dominated markets, with many brands centering their products around this flavor profile.

With such balanced trends last year, what will 2026 bring for consumers?

With the rise of GLP-1, we can anticipate a new era of health in the food industry. Foods that promote a holistic diet while keeping people satiated will be the priority for the majority of consumers.

Products filled with fiber and protein will be the first to fly off the shelves. While protein was a major trend in 2025, Whole Foods predicts fiber to steal the spotlight in 2026. As more talk about gut health surfaces in the media, consumers are shifting their diets to achieve that glow from within. High-fiber, high-protein, prebiotics, probiotics, vinegar, and real ingredients are now being incorporated into the goods that buyers already know and love! Brands are now quick to label these nutritional highlights, boosting consumer awareness around health as a whole.

Alternatives, or products that are reimagined, have already made waves in this industry: sodas now packed with protein, fizzy drinks filled with fiber, and candy made with real fruits are in high demand.

It is exciting to watch as brands listen to consumer demands, focus on buyer well-being, and deliver yummy and nutritious snacks! However, as always food trends are fun to try out, but the best meal plan varies from person to person. As exciting as it is to follow the food forecasts, it is always recommended that you consume what feels best for you.
