A Compilation of My Favorite Places to Reflect
By Siena Vitucci

One thing about my schedule is that I am constantly walking the entire span of BU’s campus from Hojo to Goodwill. If I'm not spending my time shopping for shoes on the people passing by, then I am most definitely looking for whatever the opposite of a shortcut is in attempts to feel adventurous in between endless lectures and even longer readings. Nothing is better than leaving for class a few minutes early to take the road less traveled, and in doing so, I’ve begun a never-ending search for my favorite bench. Here are some of the top contenders:
745 Commonwealth Ave (behind STH)

Off to a less “secretive” start are these rather eccentric benches situated behind the School of Theology. They don't offer much of a view, unless of course you’re interested in people-watching those entering the GSU, but I’ve certainly never seen a bench remotely as tall with nearly as many seats!
I will say these benches are surprisingly comfortable—more so than your typical bench thanks to the slightly reclined back and foot rest.
700 Commonwealth Ave

Found on the patio connected to CAS, this bench is perfect for anybody interested in experiencing the soothing sounds of imaginary waves crashing on BU beach, without having to sit on the grass. It is one of the few benches I have found covered by a roof, so it is perfect for waiting out the rain during particularly stormy weather.
775 Commonwealth Ave

Even more hidden, is this rather small bench tucked away in the corner of the patio behind the GSU. This bench offers a more quiet place to sit, and is located near a lovely waterfall installation surrounded by various flowers and plants. Aside from its peaceful location, the bench itself is beautifully grafted with unique pieces of wood, and the “kindness” inscription on the bottom truly pulls everything together!
It's the perfect place to take a deep breath, journal, or even read a book/200 page mandatory reading which I know you’ve been avoiding.
168 Bay State Road

Finally, we've reached my absolute favorite bench, which appeared to me in the most unexpected of places: behind CDS. As I passed through this lackluster stretch of campus, I stumbled upon an open fence, and walked right through to discover a hidden gem: One of BU Community Garden’s locations!
Not only does this location offer several benches, each bench has a wonderful view of various plants growing, and they even have an ivy-covered trellis!
As the days get colder, my search for the ideal bench may slow down, but it certainly will not come to a halt. Even amidst the bitter air and wind tunnels, nothing is better than discovering a new place to take a deep breath and appreciate more peaceful nooks on our otherwise bustling campus!
