ZUHAIR MURAD SPRING 22 COLLECTION

Sequins abound

by Anna Giblin

Lebanese fashion designer, Zuhair Murad, is no stranger to sequins, glamor, and tulle. Murad recently debuted his Spring 2022 Couture collection, showing off what he is best known for: elegance and an abundance of sequins.

Murad began his collection with pirate-themed gowns and concluded it with 1920’s inspired fringe gowns. His goal is to use his artistic expression to empower the women wearing his couture — his art tells a story of empowered and free women. Murad’s collection stuck to a clean color palette: blacks, golds, and neutral colors, paired with red/pink combinations, periwinkle, and burnt oranges. Murad’s gowns have a dynamic feel to them, many being flowy and airy, but also giving an air of scandal embodied by tasteful hints of skin. Nearly every gown he showed was draped in sequins and embodied elegance, ready to hit the red carpets soon enough.

From Murad’s spring collection, we can expect to see silhouettes with plunging v-necks and high slits for the spring and summer seasons. The showcased dresses feature deep cuts down the chest to the torso in a refined, classic way. We would be remiss not to note his unique use of tulle, a staple in Murad’s lines. His creativity elevates what would already be a stunning black dress into a piece of art. The popular structured corset top from 2021 is timeless, with Murad creating several gowns with a boned corset top.
