Late Night Survival: Can't-Miss Items Offered at BU's Late Night Kitchen

We all know the feeling: It’s midnight, and you have a date with the six-page paper you pushed aside amongst the chaos of chemistry exams and season-finales of the Bachelor. Most BU students know they can turn to the late night stations to help conquer grumbling stomachs and drifting eyelids. Located at each of the three dining halls, BU’s late night options bring something to the table that can help you survive your nighttime studying.

Perhaps the most frequented, Late Nite at Warren Dining Hall offers a variety, from fried comfort foods to healthy fruit smoothies. The open layout provides plenty of room to hunker down and study or relax with friends. The chicken wraps, curly fries and mozzarella sticks are popular items, but Warren’s weekly grilled cheese night is a Late Nite essential.

Hosted every Tuesday, the grilled cheese station even includes not-so-typical sandwiches, such as S’mores (chocolate and mini marshmallows) and Caprese (mozzarella, pesto, tomato and balsamic).

“My favorite is the Sweet Apple Sammy which has granny smith apples, granola, honey and cheddar cheese and cinnamon on top,” said Emma Parkinson (COM ’19). “I really like the fruit aspect of it, so I feel like I’m eating health[ily] even though I’m not.”

The best part? All of the money from grilled cheese night goes towards FeelGood, an organization that raises money to end global poverty by selling grilled cheese sandwiches on college campuses.

For a more sophisticated meal, Marciano Commons’ Late Night Kitchen provides a full waiting staff for the complete dine-in experience. Their menu offers everything from sweet crepes to miso glazed salmon, allowing you to order simple snacks or full courses.

The stand-out item at this restaurant is the Road House Burger. Monstrous enough to fill even the hungriest of people, it’s piled high with bacon, barbeque sauce, cheddar cheese and onion rings on a juicy patty.

Peter Jang (ENG ’18) has a strong personal love for the Road House Burger.

“The only people to have hurt me in my lifetime are those who have also distrusted such a burger,” he said jokingly.

Lastly, Extreme Pita, located in West Campus, fills pita bread pockets with Mediterranean-inspired ingredients. Their menu also includes lighter options such as salads and fresh-fruit smoothies.

Haley Sheehan (SHA ’19) goes to Extreme Pita when she’s missed dining hall hours, as a quick way to grab dinner.

She recommends the Chicken Fajita Pita. “[I like it] because it’s kind of like a burrito,” she said.

The Chicken Fajita Pita comes complete with roasted red peppers, onions, tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, cilantro, cheddar, mozzarella, sour cream and salsa. Its contents keep you satisfied throughout the night without the calorie count of other late night options.

Warren’s grilled cheeses, Marciano Common’s Road House Burger and Extreme Pita’s Chicken Fajita Pita are three excellent meals that are sure to keep your stomach happy. Whether you’re in the mood for greasy fried foods or wholesome pitas, BU’s late night eateries are sure to provide.
